Who can be a verifier?

A verifier must not be:
1) related to the applicant by birth or marriage
2) in a personal relationship with the applicant
3) living at the same address as the applicant
4) retired or unemployed.
The verifier must be at least 25 years old and one of the following:
Permitted list of Verifiers for Route 1 process (verifier countersigning copy ID):
A professionally-qualified person such as:
- Accountant
- Bank/building society official
- Barrister
- Broker
- Chairman/Director of a limited company
- Chemist
- Councillor: local or county
- Civil servant (permanent)
- Dentist/Doctor
- Designated Premises Supervisors
- Director/Manager of a VAT registered Charity
- Director/Manager/Personnel Officer of a VAT registered Company
- Engineer (with professional qualifications)
- Funeral director
- Journalist
- Local Government officer
- Manager/Personnel officer (of limited company)
- Member of Parliament
- Minister of a recognised religion
- Nurse (RGN and RMN-qualified)
- Optician
- Personal Licensee Holders
- Police officer
- Post Office official
- Salvation Army officer
- Social worker
- Solicitor
- Surveyor
- Teacher or Lecturer
Permitted list of Verifiers for Route 2 process (matching details against official records):
- Teacher/Tutor at your School/College/University
- Head of Year/Administrator at School/College/University
- Certified Solicitor
- Bank/Building Society staff member who knows you
- Doctor/Dentist/nurse/Administrator at your GP/dental surgery
- Your Connexions adviser/Social Worker/ Health Worker
- Your Prison/Probation Officer
