CitizenCard-issued Post Office PASS cards - affordable proof of age for the UK

05 October 2021

The UK's longest-established photo-ID scheme CitizenCard has teamed up with Post Office to issue Post Office PASS Cards. Anyone in the UK can apply at a cost of £15 for a Post Office PASS card via postoffice.citizencard.com

The Home Office and police-endorsed PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) hologram on each card means that shops, bars, cinemas, clubs and travel operators can trust the card as a valid form of proof of age/photo-ID.

93% of 16-34 year olds take out valuable passports or driving licences to prove their age or identity to buy age-restricted products and services. 1 million driving licences and 400,000 passports are lost each year in the UK.

Andrew Chevis, Chief Executive of CitizenCard, wants people to leave those documents at home:

Lost passports and driving licences are difficult and expensive to replace. So I'm thrilled that the Post Office will be using its longstanding expertise in identity services to offer PASS cards to a wider audience.

Elinor Hull, Post Office's Identity Services Director, believes the Post Office PASS card will help some of the 11 million people in the UK who own neither a passport nor driving licence to obtain a trusted proof of age/photo-ID:

At Post Office our ambition is to make it easier and more affordable for everyone to access the products and services to which they're entitled. Our new EasyID app lets anyone use their smart phone to prove who they are or how old they are, and now the Post Office PASS card lets anyone obtain an affordable proof of age/photo-ID to keep in their purse or wallet.

CitizenCard is a non-profit organisation accredited by PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) to issue proof of age/photo-ID cards endorsed by the Home Office, Scottish Government, National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Post Office has launched EasyID as a safe way to prove identity online and in person from your smart phone. EasyID is built using Yoti technology certified compliant with ISO/IEC 27001 information security standards.

The Post Office PASS Card is issued by CitizenCard and is available in 18+ and under-18 versions. The 18+ card displays the NPCC and SIA logos. The standard application cost is £15. Express application cost is £30.
